What are the advantages of GolfLogix GPS versus other yardage devices?
A handheld GPS device, such as GolfLogix GPS, offers more flexibility during a typical round of golf. You can bring the GPS to the ball and get more accurate distance data. Unlike other laser devices, there is no need to point and aim or have a direct line of sight to the hazard or hole.

How do I get golf course maps on my GolfLogix GPS?
Included with your initial purchase is access to download a single golf course map of your choice. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions in the Quick Start Guide located in the box to download the Course Manager Software from the GolfLogix Web site. Then follow the registration and activation screens on your computer to obtain your free golf course map. With a $29.95 annual membership, you can download an unlimited amount of golf courses worldwide (currently more than 15,000 in the database) and have access to GolfLogix product enhancements and upgrades.

Is using a GPS distance device allowed under USGA regulations?
The USGA and R&A both recently sanctioned the use of satellite-based yardage measuring devices during competition. Specifically, decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by Local Rule. Golfers should check with their golf professional prior to use in a USGA sanctioned event. GPS devices have always been permitted in handicap scoring in recreational rounds.

What’s in the Box?
GolfLogix GPS, USB cable, belt/bag clip, 2 AA alkaline batteries, printed instructions

Works Very Well5
I purchased the Golflogix GPS instead of the more popular SkyCaddie because the Golflogix is made by Garmin. Obviously, Garmin knows GPS. The unit is actually a re-packaged Garmin eTrex. It is very solid and sturdy. When I bought it I found that three of the courses that I play were not mapped. I requested them and in one week they were available. Fantastic. I have also submitted questions via email and have been answered promptly. The unit is small and easy to use. It will increment holes automatically when I walk to the next hole. Most of the time I do not need to press any buttons. I would definitely recommend Golflogix.

GolfLogic 2008 Review5
I had one of the early models made by SkyCaddie, and this device is far superior. It’s easier to use, holds 20 downloaded courses (as opposed to 10), finds the course you are at (as opposed to scrolling through a list), is waterproof (as opposed to water resistant), cost far less to get a one year membership to downloadable courses, and turns on in seconds with distances (as opposed to minutes). The 2008 model measures the distance from your last shot so you can tell how far you are hitting each club.

It’s very easy to use. Just turn it on. I had no trouble downloading the courses, and I am a Mac user with the Mac Leopard operating system. The Garmin algorithn for finding distances is quick and accurate.

I really like it and can’t imaging playing golf without it!

Golflogix GPS5
I have used this item for several rounds of golf. It is very easy to use. Seems much easier to work than the Skycaddie. They both will give you the same information but this one is easier to read and operate. The customer service at Golflogix is tops also.

Subscriptions For GPS Golf Systems

Posted by admin

The question of needing subscriptions depends on the Golf GPS system being considered for purchase or being used.

Most people have the idea that you have to buy an annual subscription to use most GPS Golf systems on a golf course.  There are many devices that furnish 1 subscription for your primary golf course, but you can go on line and subscribe to about 30,000 golf courses for $30.00 annual.  You can then down load 20 to 30 courses at a time to use with these devices.

There are systems that offer Golf GPS courses for free, but these are usually the higher priced systems and the cost of the courses is built into the initial price. None of the GPS Golf systems that have an annual subscription require a purchase of a subscription to use their unit.

Most Golf GPS systems offer one free course to download or allow you to map your own courses.  You will likely want an annual subscription rathere than to do the difficult process of mapping and you would likely want to download several courses anyway.

Do not let the idea of an annual subscription ( about $30 ) interfear with your purchase if you are buying good system with the desired features at a reasonable value.  The higher end units with free subscriptions can and do cost substantially more than the savings of the subscription.

I want to buy a range finder and want some opinions on which are the best? What makes them the best? What are the features? What is the price of each as well as any monthly or yearly fees?

I am going to disagree with everyone. Go rangefinder. Bushnell pin-seeker is the only one I have used.
Why:
1.Rangefinders will cost less money. No fees.
2.Rangefinders give you very accurate distance to the Pin. That’s really what you are after. Not distance to the back, front and middle.
3.You can also get distance to hazards, trees, and bunkers with a rangefinder.

4.More accurate yardages. GPS can be questionable, form distance
5.Most importantly, rangefinders give you the most accurate distance inside 100 yards!!! Tweeners are much easier with a rangefinder; GPS is useless with short game help.

I have played with both. Most experienced players have rangefinders, simply for the help with difficult distances, 30, 50, 75 yards.

***I almost forgot…one of the best reasons for a rangefinder over a GPS is getting accurate distances on the range.

What GPS Golf Device should i get?

Posted by admin

I have up to 400 dollars to spend, and would like to know which model is the greatest value. I don’t want links, I want to know what you bought, how it works, and why you bought that one over the other models available.

one that locates the ball after i hit it.
Skycaddie is good

I play several courses in Michigan and Myrtle Beach that are not on Gamin’s course listing. It seems like there are a lot of courses listed until you start looking at the courses you are familiar with that are not on line.

this will sound different, this company is upon desperate finicial times. not close to chapter 11. as close as it can get to restructure. very very smal market parent company would not invest any large time money.

Professional and electronic Caddie lets you precisely hit every stroke. It can be your personal golf coach, your GPS navigator on more than 20,000 golf courses, or just work as a portable score card. (Log on http://www.sonocaddie.com/ for more information).

is it any different from the hand held GPS or the ones u can use with cars?

You can use one – but it is only allowed in tournaments if the committee has established a local rule allowing them. As to how they work, the best ones require that when the cup is cut each morning the crew enters the coordinates of the hole (lat and longitude). That way you get very accurate reading from where your device is (usually on the GPS equipped golf cart) to the hole. The hole location needs to be entered each day when they are moved, but everything else on the course (that doesn’t move) need only be entered once ie. bunkers, water hazards etc. But you still need to figure in elevation changes and wind yourself. Some rangefinders do a great job of measuring distance to the flag and also give elevation changes.
