The uPro starts by providing the avid golfer with aerial and satellite photographs of the golf course. You will know what the hold looks like before play it. The unit’s built-in GPS system clearly locates the golf course hazards and flagstick, so you know what you’re up against. With each glance at the 2.2-inch, high-resolution color screen, you can see a different view of the fairway, check out the upcoming sand traps and water hazards, or receive a distance marker that helps you select the correct club length. The uPro’s SmartView technology anticipates the hazards that you’ll face on your next shot, so you can plan accordingly based on the strengths of your game. Don’t want to carry water on your second shot? The SmartView technology’s dynamically generated “viewports” will tell you which area of the fairway or rough will provide a water-free path.

The uPro offers aerial and satellite photographs of thousands of golf courses.

The easy-to-comprehend user-interface is crisp and intuitive.

The uPro is remarkably easy to carry, with a sleek and unobtrusive design that fits in a pocket or belt holder without interfering with your natural golf swing. The uPro offers two basic modes for golf course downloads. In Basic mode, the uPro shows the distance to the front and back of all hazards and differentiates the type of hazards. Each hazard is automatically displayed in sequential order based on the current user position, and then is updated as the user moves throughout the hole. Basic mode also provides a green view, with large, easy-to-read numbers that depict the distance to the front, center, and back of the green. In Pro mode, meanwhile, the device offers a video flyover that lets the user see the layout of the hole from an aerial perspective. From the center of the green, users can see the 100-, 150-, and 200-yard markers. The Pro mode also offers scale-accurate measurements that are used to measure to and from any point on the golf course, even from the rough.

The unit’s GPS technology also automatically determines which courses are nearby. And as an add-on software download, the device can accept voice commands to make menu navigation virtually hands-free.

The uPro comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a wall adapter, a USB cable, and a single free Pro mode download of any golf course. The device comes with a six-month warranty.

GPS For Golf Devices – Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Laser Rangefinder Review

The quality and competitive cost and use  of Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Laser Rangefinder for both golf and hunting is unparalelled.

Take your best shot with confidence with help from a Bushnell Yardage Pro laser rangefinder. Using advanced digital technology, Yardage Pro takes the guesswork out of measuring distances. It delivers superb range performance to targets from 5 to 1,500 yards away at the touch of a button and is accurate to within a yard even if you’re measuring in rain or snow or through foreground clutter like brush and branches. Measuring a mere 1.5 by 4 by 2.75 inches and weighing only 6.8 ounces, the Yardage Pro is the smallest, most advanced laser rangefinder available.

Thousands of hunters and golfers count on their Yardage Pro laser rangefinder to quickly and accurately size up their target and enhance their performance. In fact, over 600 touring golf pros, including 18 of the top 20 money winners on the PGA tour, use Yardage Pro to improve their game. So, whether you need to measure the distance to a whitetail deer or a bunker on the course, you can do it with confidence with Bushnell’s Yardage Pro.

How a Laser Rangefinder Works
Bushnell’s Yardage Pro rangefinders use an invisible, eye-safe Class 1 laser beam (as classified by the FDA) which is bounced off distant objects at the press of a button. Then, the rangefinder’s high-speed digital clock measures the time it takes for a laser beam to reach a target and return to the unit. Next, using advanced digital electronics, the rangefinder instantly calculates the distance to within a yard and shows the range in either yards or meters on a through-the-lens LCD display. The entire process is so fast that less than a second elapses between the time you press the button to the time the exact range to your target is displayed.

Reflectivity of Target Types
Because rangefinders bounce laser beams off targets in order to take measurements, their range is partially determined by the targets’ reflectivity. So, distances to reflective or “hard” targets like rock cliffs and semis can be measured from farther away than those to soft-surface targets such as deer. Ranges for moderately reflective targets, like trees, fall somewhere in the middle. Most experienced hunters will use their rangefinder to estimate ranges to near and distant landmarks before they actually encounter a game animal. By pre-measuring ranges to spots where trophies are likely to appear, they can concentrate on making an accurate shot when the moment of truth arrives.

Let it hinge on a guess, or nail it with this. The shot of a lifetime is a time for certainty. With the Yardage Pro Sport 450, you’re confident to the last yard. It’s affordable, simple to use and features a slim, weather-resistant design that’s handy in a pinch. Now, jerky or sausage?

Subscriptions For GPS Golf Systems

The question of needing subscriptions depends on the Golf GPS system being considered for purchase or being used.

Most people have the idea that you have to buy an annual subscription to use most GPS Golf systems on a golf course.  There are many devices that furnish 1 subscription for your primary golf course, but you can go on line and subscribe to about 30,000 golf courses for $30.00 annual.  You can then down load 20 to 30 courses at a time to use with these devices.

There are systems that offer Golf GPS courses for free, but these are usually the higher priced systems and the cost of the courses is built into the initial price. None of the GPS Golf systems that have an annual subscription require a purchase of a subscription to use their unit.

Most Golf GPS systems offer one free course to download or allow you to map your own courses.  You will likely want an annual subscription rathere than to do the difficult process of mapping and you would likely want to download several courses anyway.

Do not let the idea of an annual subscription ( about $30 ) interfear with your purchase if you are buying good system with the desired features at a reasonable value.  The higher end units with free subscriptions can and do cost substantially more than the savings of the subscription.

What is the best golf range finder/gps system to buy?

I want to buy a range finder and want some opinions on which are the best? What makes them the best? What are the features? What is the price of each as well as any monthly or yearly fees?

I am going to disagree with everyone. Go rangefinder. Bushnell pin-seeker is the only one I have used.
Why:
1.Rangefinders will cost less money. No fees.
2.Rangefinders give you very accurate distance to the Pin. That’s really what you are after. Not distance to the back, front and middle.
3.You can also get distance to hazards, trees, and bunkers with a rangefinder.
4.More accurate yardages. GPS can be questionable, form distance
5.Most importantly, rangefinders give you the most accurate distance inside 100 yards!!! Tweeners are much easier with a rangefinder; GPS is useless with short game help.

I have played with both. Most experienced players have rangefinders, simply for the help with difficult distances, 30, 50, 75 yards.

***I almost forgot…one of the best reasons for a rangefinder over a GPS is getting accurate distances on the range.

Has there ever been a review of the various Golf GPS units available to buy ?

Places like golfgalaxy.com have customer reviews. golfwrx.com also has product reviews.

What GPS Golf Device should i get?

I have up to 400 dollars to spend, and would like to know which model is the greatest value. I don’t want links, I want to know what you bought, how it works, and why you bought that one over the other models available.

one that locates the ball after i hit it.
Skycaddie is good

What seems to be the hold up on Garmin being able to upgrade its golf course list on their G5 Approach GPS.?

I play several courses in Michigan and Myrtle Beach that are not on Gamin’s course listing. It seems like there are a lot of courses listed until you start looking at the courses you are familiar with that are not on line.

this will sound different, this company is upon desperate finicial times. not close to chapter 11. as close as it can get to restructure. very very smal market parent company would not invest any large time money.
