What seems to be the hold up on Garmin being able to upgrade its golf course list on their G5 Approach GPS.?

I play several courses in Michigan and Myrtle Beach that are not on Gamin’s course listing. It seems like there are a lot of courses listed until you start looking at the courses you are familiar with that are not on line.

this will sound different, this company is upon desperate finicial times. not close to chapter 11. as close as it can get to restructure. very very smal market parent company would not invest any large time money.

can I use a GPS device at a golf course? how do the GPS at a golf course work?

is it any different from the hand held GPS or the ones u can use with cars?

You can use one – but it is only allowed in tournaments if the committee has established a local rule allowing them. As to how they work, the best ones require that when the cup is cut each morning the crew enters the coordinates of the hole (lat and longitude). That way you get very accurate reading from where your device is (usually on the GPS equipped golf cart) to the hole. The hole location needs to be entered each day when they are moved, but everything else on the course (that doesn’t move) need only be entered once ie. bunkers, water hazards etc. But you still need to figure in elevation changes and wind yourself. Some rangefinders do a great job of measuring distance to the flag and also give elevation changes.

Whats the best Rangefinder or GPS for golf?

I am thinking about getting a range finder for golf . . . Do you have to get a membership to skycaddie in order to use it for golf courses? Also, would you consider a laser rangefinder or a Golf GPS better all around? Whatever your answer, which do you think is the best laser or GPS on the market?
A) get a GPS much better then a rangefinder (I’ve had both) B) SkyCaddie is great & you can map your own courses for free or subscribe to yearly fees C) I had a Nikon rangefinder & it worked well

Is there golf gps capability for blackberry pearl cell phones?

My fiance has a blackberry pearl cell phone and t mobile is his carrier. He wants Golf GPS and heard that it could be hooked up into the cell phone. I was wondering if anyone knows about the whole Golf gps and if there’s software or something that could be compatible with the cell phone.
YES GolfTraxx… Currently works for 88xx, 83xx (curve) and Pearl with the GPS enabled. (Folks at VZN will have to buy an external GPS receiver and bluetooth sync.) Provides distance to Front, Center and Back of the Green, tee shot target on par 4s and 5s. On courses that are mapped in detail – distance to layup or carry over multiple hazards per hole. GolfTraxx is community based, meaning all courses are mapped by users. It is FREE when you send in a map of a course they don’t have, or you can buy it for 30 bucks. GolfTraxx ALSO has versions for WMobile, Palm OS and Pocket PC operating systems. Basically, zero cost for an even better experience than you get with the GPS bricks out there. = )
