One of the most important fundamentals is controlling your accuracy in reaching the golf green. For all golfers accuracy from the tee to the green is completely dependent in controlling the distance of the shot. A GPS Golf device can be just the thing to improve accuracy and distance and it makes the game a lot more fun when you can control this.  GPS For Golf devices have all kinds of features that makes this a possibility. Your are provided with distances from tee to the pin on the green with a detailed map of the hole layout.  If you are executing a shot from the fairway on the longer par 4’s and par 5’s, you can get an accurate  assesment of the distances to the pin on the green and to the front and back of the green.

Subscriptions For GPS Golf Systems

The question of needing subscriptions depends on the Golf GPS system being considered for purchase or being used.

Most people have the idea that you have to buy an annual subscription to use most GPS Golf systems on a golf course.  There are many devices that furnish 1 subscription for your primary golf course, but you can go on line and subscribe to about 30,000 golf courses for $30.00 annual.  You can then down load 20 to 30 courses at a time to use with these devices.

There are systems that offer Golf GPS courses for free, but these are usually the higher priced systems and the cost of the courses is built into the initial price. None of the GPS Golf systems that have an annual subscription require a purchase of a subscription to use their unit.

Most Golf GPS systems offer one free course to download or allow you to map your own courses.  You will likely want an annual subscription rathere than to do the difficult process of mapping and you would likely want to download several courses anyway.

Do not let the idea of an annual subscription ( about $30 ) interfear with your purchase if you are buying good system with the desired features at a reasonable value.  The higher end units with free subscriptions can and do cost substantially more than the savings of the subscription.

What GPS Golf Device should i get?

I have up to 400 dollars to spend, and would like to know which model is the greatest value. I don’t want links, I want to know what you bought, how it works, and why you bought that one over the other models available.

one that locates the ball after i hit it.
Skycaddie is good

How do you like your Golf Buddy GPS tour unit?

How accurate is it? Does it really come preloaded with all available courses in North America? How easy is it to use? Do you think it’s better than the SkyCaddie GPS units?

The Golf Buddy Tour GPS is anew model (Available Set. 1, ‘08)
It is similar to other Golf Buddy models but has a color screen with "intelligent green technology" similar to the SkyCaddie SG-5. It does come pre-loaded with courses from North America. It has a storage capacity of 20,000 course maps. One other difference is that Golf Buddy does not charge an Annual Fee.
It’s a tough choice between SkyCaddie and Golf Buddy.

SkyCaddie SG2.5 Golf GPS (Black)

I like the SkyCaddy SG2.5 GPS rangefinder. I only play a couple of different courses and they are already mapped in the database. I like knowing the prescise yardage to the pin and this is made possible by having the ability to use the cusrsor keys to move the location of the flag placement on the iGreen display.

As much as I like the product, I absolutely abhor, hate, loathe and generally dislike the customer service of SkyGolf. I dropped my unit and broke the LCD display. My fault, ok! So let’s get it repaired. Call SkyCaddy and get told by the automated attendant that the wait time is on the order of 65 minutes…whoa!! So jump on line and get their on-line customer service chat thing going, and am told that they can’t give me an RMA because I need to call in and talk to a person…uh, excuse me, aren’t you a person on the other end of the keyboard??

To date, I still don’t have my repaired unit back in my hands.

Bottom line is: Good product, lousy customer service. If I was going to spend my money again knowing what I know now, I would go with the laser range-finder.

Where can I find reviews of the best iPhone golf GPS applications?

I know that there are user reviews on the App Store, but I was hoping to find a web site like Consumer Reports that covers all of the different choices out there.

The best site I have found for reviews of iPhone golf GPS apps is Critical Golf (http://criticalgolf.com) – they rank them according to a bunch of categories and even include how good the course coverage is for each application.

My personal favorite is Golfshot, but go look at their review, you may like a different one more. They have all the top apps like Golfshot, AirVue, ViewTi, FlyCaddie and GolfLogix, so you can see the trade-offs between each.

They also have reviews for dedicated golf GPS devices in case you decide you want to go that route instead.

Do any of you use a GPS for golf and which do you think are the best?

I am doing some research on GPS and was wondering if anybody can tell me which they think are the best models and why. What do you like about them and what do you dislike?
Any help would be appreciated.

I do not use a gps but I had heard that the igolf neo is passing up sky caddie. the neo is cheaper, smaller, and lighter. Also when you subscribe for all your courses, you can keep all the courses that you download if you decide not keep on paying for your subscription with the i golf neo. As for the sky caddie you will lose all your downloaded courses. which I think that is weak……..So I heard.

Can a regular gps handheld unit be used to map a golf course?

i was considering buying a sky caddie gps, but i was wondering if you can use a regular gps to map a golf course on your own. i’ve never used a gps so i really don’t know anything about them.

Why bother for $150.00 you can get the iGolf Neo.
The website in "source" below rates it above the Skycaddie although this is mainly because of price.
And you can start playing straight away without fussing about mapping. Besides how accurate will your 200 meters be when you are going over undulating ground?
With the iGolf you will have a exceptional GPS and over a hundred bucks change.
But the Skycaddie is also a great GPS.
And both will be able to analayze your game.
Keep that head down and follow through!!!

What is the best golf gps range finder?

I would like to buy a gps range finder. Which one would you recommend?
Thanks for your help.

SkyCaddie is a best golf gps rangefinder, it has a large color display with automatic backlighting, has a long-lasting rechargeable battery, It’s also equipped with the patented IntelliGreen technology, enabling golfers to measure the full depth and shape of the green from any angle of approach. I suggestion model :

1. SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS
2. SkyCaddie SG2.5 Golf GPS
