Mike – yes, there has been reviews. Depending on your situation a stand alone GPS might or might not be the ‘best solution.’ And a shameles plug here… I am the Chief Evangelist for GolfTraxx – we provide the distance to the front, center and back of the green, tee targets for par 4s and approach targets for par 5s on our basic mapped courses. For a course that has been extended mapped, we also provide reach and carry distances for multiple (UNLIMITED) hazards for each hole.
And …. this all happens on your current smart phone! No additional HW to buy, no synching with a PC, no recharging (beyond keeping your phone charged.) At this time we have about 1,500 courses world-wide mapped and grow each week as our courses are mapped by our users.
By sending in just one course – we send you the application. Cool community model.
So, if you have a GPS enabled smart phone like a Blackberry 88xx or 83xx (curve), a WM OR Palm OS Treo, Moto Q, etc., it will work. Older (non built in GPS) can also use the SW with an external Bluetooth GPS puck or key fob.
Places like golfgalaxy.com have customer reviews. golfwrx.com also has product reviews.
